Diagnostic Materials

All types of specimens, containing cells or tissues are suitable for diagnostic DNA-image-cytometry after appropriate preparation and fixation:

Surgical specimes
- Unfixed tissue: see touch imprints
- Fixed tissue: see punch biopsies

Punch biopsies
- Regions of interest (ROI) are marked on stained tissue sections.
Respective selected tissue is selectively cut from paraffin-blocks and subjected
to enzymatic cell separation (see: Methods…). Feulgen-staining

Touch imprints
- are prepared on glass slides from fresh cut surfaces of resected tissue
or organs and air dried. Formalin fixation and Feulgen-staining.

Fine needle aspiration biopsies
- unstained, air dried: fixation with Formalin and Feulgen staining
- unstained, alcohol-fixed: fixation with Formalin and Feulgen-staining
- MGG-stained:
uncover slides in xylene, fixation with Formalin and Feulgen staining
- Papanicolaou-stained: uncover slides in xylene, fixation in Formalin
and Feulgen staining

Smears
- see fine needle aspiration biopsies

Cytospins
- see fine needle aspiration biopsies

Liquid-based preparations
- see fine needle aspiration biopsies
